MU and Gadarif University reaffirmed to beef-up their cooperation
Mekelle University and Gadarif University in The Sudan have a firm and growing relationship. The two universities signed MoU on 11 May 2009.
On 29 Dec. 2009, the Vice Chancellor of the Gadarif University, Prof. M. Awad Salih visited Mekelle University. He had held talks with the president of Mekelle University, Prof. Mitiku Haile and other management members of the university.

Solar cooker successfully cooked pasta and sauce
A project by Departments of Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering has manufactured five solar cookers for community trails. The first solar cooker has been developed and tested in the laboratory. Four more cookers were then made replicating the first one. Tests conducted on the cookers without any load reached a temperature of 130 oC. The cookers reached a temperature of 90-95 oC with about 0.5 liters of water in a dish during a clear day. This indicates that the cookers are able to cook most of the common food items.

Inauguration of new elearning computer labs by the Spanish Ambassador
D. Antonio Sánchez-Benedito, Ambassador of Spain in Ethiopia, yesterday (Nov. 24, 2009) visited Mekelle University to formally inaugurate the Digital Campus elearning project.

After a meeting and presentation with the University management and project team, the Ambassador traveled to the Ayder campus to formally open one of the two new elearning training labs which have been set up in partnership with the Spanish Cooperation (AECID).
