The Health Informatics unit is the single unit engaged in health informatics related courses for the undergraduate and postgraduate students under the school of Public Health. Currently, the unit is running upgrading program of BSc in health informatics degree in collaboration with Tigray Regional Health Bureau. In EFY 2010, the department accepts new generic students in BSc health informatics from the Ministry of Education. The unit planned to open PG program of Health Informatics which will have a great impact for the health information revolution of the country in general and the region in particular.

As part of executing the health sector transformation agenda related to information revolution, the unit took responsibility shared by the School of Public Health in facilitating, organizing and coordinating the Capacity Building and Mentorship Project with the following major objectives: a) Ensure sustainability of the HIS through engagement and partnership with the cluster universities (Adigrat, Axum and Semera), b) improve the culture of using health information for decisions, c) Build capacity of health workers and health managers to use health information and d) Improve the quality and transformation of health information.
