FDRE Minster of Health Minister Dr. Kesetebirhan Admasu, state minister of Health and all Regional Health Bureau Heads visited MU-CHS and Ayder Referral Hospital

His Excellency Minister Dr. Kesetebirhan Admasu accompanied by H.E. State minster of FMoH, Dr Kebede Worku and all Regional Health Bureau Heads ovisited Mekelle University's Ayder referral Hospital on October 11, 2013. Dr. Kindeya Gebrehiwot, President of Mekelle University, Mr. Hagos Godefy, Head of Tigray Regional Health Bureau and members of the College and Hospital community warmly welcomed the Minister.

Minister Dr. Kesetebirhan Admasu, have visited the hospital service that are being provided in the referral Hospital and the College. In the visit the Medical Director of the Hospital Dr Amanual Haile and his colleagues have showed the wide range of speciality and sub-speciality services the University Hospital is rendering with the state-of-the art facilities that accompany and keep the quality of the at its best desired level. The partnership with Ethio-Witten (in Germany) in improving the hospital and teaching facilities was also highlighted.

The link between service delivery and teaching was another major point of the visit, Dr. Loko Abrham, Dean College of Health Sciences, have explained the effort of the College in providing quality Medical and Health Science education during the visit of the modern e-library, Tele-Medicine and Distance learning facilities and the Virtual Learning environment. The dean also acknowledged the unwavering support of the University management and the regional health bureau in the College’s effort to augment the developmental endeavour of the nation. The college management also raised some concerns related to quality of medical and hospital service that would need the attention of the government.

He specially noted the good contribution of the College in launching .the second Forensic Medicine service in the Country and the commitment and the preparation in launching the first speciality training in the history of the country on Forensic Medicine. The State Minster also promised that his office is ready to support the launching of Oncology service in the hospital by fully furnishing the center if the University avails standard building for it.

The Head of Tigray Bureau of Health, Hogos Godifay, has also mentioned the good and exemplary partnership with the collges and further confirmed his continued support to the College so that it will achieve excellence in various areas related to its mandate.

H.E Minister Dr. Kesetebirhan Admasu also appreciated the effort of the young College and Hospital in providing the best Medical and Health Science education and service. H.E wishes and believes that the College and the Hospital can be the leading center of training and service in the country. In his reflection, he mentioned the harmony between the dedication of the professional working in the Hospital and the state of the art facilities labelling it as “exemplary”. The Minister also promised to provide all the support needed to make the College and Hospital in its effort to become the leading center of excellence in East Africa and beyond.
