About the Department

The Food Science and Postharvest Technology (FSPT) B.Sc. degree curriculum is a four years degree program. Professionals in Food Science and Postharvest Technology are involved in food production, processing, preservation and packaging. They are capable of doing research in the area of Food Science and Technology and related disciplines such as the food and beverage industries, pharmaceutical and other bioprocess industries (particularly as experts in processing, optimizing/ modifying, quality control and assurance, etc.).

The Food Science and Postharvest Technology professionals will:

  • Manage and supervise production in different branches of food processing industries
  • Design, develop and new product or modify the already existing products,
  • Design and implement processes to suit escalating consumer demand for food of high nutrition and quality, international laws and standards necessary to penetrate global market with processed food of high values.
  • Ensure efficient, safe and environmentally sound plant operation,
  • Be involved in food and beverage equipment and machinery design.
  • Implement quality control programs, good manufacturing practice (GMP), hazard analysis critical control point programs (HACCP) towards consistent quality production and consumer safety.
  • Conduct technical, techno-economic and economic analysis and undertake research to solve the dynamic problems the food and beverage sub-sector is facing in the current global competition,
  • Play advisory and technical role in document preparation-specification, purchase, installation and commissioning of pilot and large-scale industries,
  • Manage production, marketing and distribution of food and beverage products
  • Teach or provide training in food science, technology, biochemical processing and related area of specialization on different levels of education.

Ever since the establishment of this department, our primary goal for undergraduate students is to train future leaders with high-quality Food Science education. The aim of department of Food Science and Post Harvest Technology is to disseminate knowledge, skill, attitude and technologies through quality teaching, research and its applications in Food industries and allied disciplines. In our creative and attractive curriculum, we strive to assimilate the latest developments in Food Chemistry, Food Microbiology, New product development and Sensory Evaluation, Principles of Food Processing and Preservation and Food Analysis.

Food Scientists develop state-of-the-art technologies and exhilarating solutions for the mankind. We attempt to provide our students with a cheerful, productive and satisfying experience at all levels of their program of studies to explore the amazing world of Food Science.
