The US Embassy in Ethiopia presented a public session entitled ‘Black History through Music’ at Adi-Haki Campus, Mekelle University as part of the Black History Month Program on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.
Thomas M. Bills, Consular Officer from the US Embassy in Addis Ababa, opened the session with American Visa information followed by his major presentation ‘Jazz and Blues: Pain and Renaissance’.

Mr. Thomas highlighted the historical development of Blues and Jazz and their strong bond with the culture and history of African Americans and American popular music in general. He showed how these music genres developed to be global sounds in light of the history and life of the African American People.
The Public session was attended by the university management, staff and students of the university and invited guests from the city of Mekelle.
