Delegates of investors and higher diplomats from Australia and New Zealand have visited Mekelle University on November 29, 217 as part of their official visit to the Tigray Region and other part of the country.

The representatives which comprise 40 Delegates of investors and diplomats headed by Mr Kym Fullgrabe, Senior Africa Trade Commissioner, and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) African and Middle East Commissioner were arrived in Mekelle, Tigray Region to observe the available investment opportunity and incentives in the region.

During their visit to Mekelle University, the delegates have held a discussion with the university top management. Hence, a brief overview and developments of MU was presented by Mr. Goitom Tegegn, Director of International affair, after welcoming speech was made by Prof. Kindeya Gebrehowt, President of the University. Thus, it has been affirmed to create further partnership. Likewise, Dr. Berihu, Dean of College of Veterinary Medicine, has mentioned there are potential incentives that can be mark of partnership among the countries and our universities, especially in the livestock and Diary sector. Similarly, Mr Jemal from Ethiopian Embassy has expressed his testimony and appreciations about the so far promising growth of MU and its community based engagements.

On the other hand, Kym Fullgrabe and Haylon Smith representative from Australia and New Zealand Trade Enterprise respectively have expressed their gratefulness by the hospitality and generosity of the people in the region, thereby, they have pledged to create further partnership with Mekelle University in research and staff exchange collaborations. Afterward, the delegates visited ‘MOMONA’ tree which the current university was established at and had been served as home office for long, hence, the delegates appreciated the growth of MU in such a short time.

What is more, the delegates have visited Mekelle industrial park, Velocity Garment and Apparatus PLC, and martyrs museum after a brief presentation of the investment opportunity and incentives in Tigrai region has been provided by the regional government.
