The Mekelle American Corner has been jointly inaugurated by US Embassy and Mekelle University at Adi-Haki Campus on January 25, 2020.

On the occasion, Professor Kindeya Gebrehiwot, President of Mekelle University said,”Mekelle American Corner is a new addition to the already existing windows of community engagement.” As to the president, the corner will be unique in the way that it integrates information, technology, innovation and opportunities for the wider community in general and the youth and elementary, high school and university students.

Tibor Nagy, U.S. Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, on his part said, “We and the leadership of Mekelle University share the dream that this Corner will be a favorite gathering place for both students at the university and the people of Mekele and become an intellectual resource for the community.  This American Corner, according to the Assistant Secretary, will be a place for the free exchange of ideas, where all can discover new talents and develop them, and where connections with the United States and the rest of the world are as close as a click on a computer screen.

 The inauguration ceremony was attended by Professor Kindeya Gebrehiwot, President of Mekelle University His Excellency Ambassador Tibor Nagy, and U.S. Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, His Excellency Michael Raynor, and U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia, Honorable Prof. Mitiku Haile, The founding president of Mekelle University, and other invited guests.
