MU researchers in collaboration with Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity, has handed over a Biogas plant to residents of Kebelle 17 Condominium houses on November 03, 2016. The plant which uses human excreta is the first of its kind in the city of Mekelle.

On the event, Dr.Kindeya Gebrehiwet, President of Mekelle University, reiterated that solving problems that our community faces is an objective of our University. We encourage our researchers to come forward and engage in researches and community service undertakings for the betterment of the community. He added, this is an exemplary work done and I hope this will be expanded to the other condominium houses. Lastly, he expressed his gratitude to those involved in the project.

Dr. Hagos Weldegebriel, the project coordinator thanked the residents of the Condominium, Tigray Biogas Project, Mekelle City Municipal, Mekelle City Communal Housing Agency, and Ministry of water, irrigation and Electricity for their support. He also expressed his gratitude to Mekelle University for the provision of unlimited support at every step of the project.

Lastly, the project coordinator handed over the project to the residents. The team of the project demonstrated to the attendants on how to use the plant. On the occasion the residents expressed their gratefulness for the opportunity they have given.
