Department of economics, College of Business and Economics, Mekelle University, organized a national conference on economic research for development from June 10 to 11, 2017 at Axum hotel Mekelle.
The conference was opened by Professor Fetien Abay, Vice President for Research and Community Services who on her speech remarked that economics is a vital component of the nation’s overall development and noted that it is time to integrate with technologist, biologist, social science and other with interdisciplinary approach for societal benefit. And she congratulated the organizers and female presenters.
The two days conference entertained more than 25 research papers that focused on energy, climate, investment, finance, agriculture, and marketing.
Dr. Abebe Ejegu, Vice President for Support Services while closing the event also emphasized that “MU is highly engaged in research, academics and community services. It also envisages to be one of the 25 best universities in Africa in 2025 by focusing on research based postgraduate education.” and he added that this kind of conference is an opportunity to materialize its vision through dissemination of the research outputs and linkage to the broader scientific community. At the last he mentioned that such type of conference should be regularly organized and that the university is ready to support.
In the conference, researchers and policy makers took part and discussions were made on the presented papers.
