College of Health Sciences, MU, have held the 9th graduation ceremony at Hawelti Sematat Assembly Hall on March 10, 2018. Therefore, a total of 353 students in health related fields are graduated in the commencement; out of which, 157 graduates are medical doctors, 50 are female and 38 are in specialty and subspecialty.

 Prof. Kindeya Gebrehiwot, President of Mekelle University, after congratulated and addressed the commencement, he affirmed to the graduates to serve their society and the country with full responsibility and dedication to transform the much needed health services.

Prof. Yifru Berhan, Minister of Health, was guest of honor at the graduation ceremony. In his astounding message, Professor Yifru has conveyed that the graduates are much awaited to served their country wholeheartedly in this digital era. “it is something special and an opportunity to graduate in this digital era where information flow is very speedy” said Professor Yifru. correspondingly, he insisted to the graduates to broaden their professional capability using the available opportunities under which the minister of Health is also striving hard to attain national electronic medical service. The minister added, information revolution as for medical service is currently one core value that the Minister of Health are taking as strategic direction to transform the health service in to high level in the country. In his final speech, Professor Yifru congratulated to all graduates and extend his gratitude for the university community for the fact that MU is achieving remarkable progress in the health sector.

After conferral of degree by the Registrar and Alumni Directorate, awarding ceremony for subspecialty, medical doctors, specialty and masters has been followed. Moreover, awards for contributors, other health sciences graduate with very great distinction, for top performing, gold medal winner and best female achiever has been held.

The college of health science, MU, graduates 2 candidates in subspecialty in Urogynecology and 4 Masters in Physiotherapy which are taken to be for the first time in Ethiopia. What is more, the university college has graduated specialty in forensic medicine for the first time. In this regard, ‘We took up the challenge @MekUniETH for a speciality program in forensic medicine; I am happy to see the 1st Ethiopian speciality graduates today! This will sustain the forensic service we are having, among other things! Congrats!” said the university president in his twitter account.
