August 18, 2014 (MU International Affairs Office): A South Korean Science and Technology Policy Institute STEPI has joined hands with Mekelle University by signing a Memorandum of Understanding that marked the agreement for the promotion of research and cooperation on science and technology transfer.

Dr. Abdelkader Kedir, the Vice President for Academics of Mekelle University signed the MoU on behalf the Dr. Kindeya, the President of Mekelle University, while a delegation of four staff members of STEPI attended the signing ceremony on behalf Dr. Jonk Guk Song, President of STEPI.

The MoU lays the foundation for both parties to invest their utmost effort to encourage their faculty members, departments and research institutes to cooperate to the extent that they are able to work on the following major areas of cooperation;

  • Science and Technology Park development and advancement,
  • Faculty capacity development and exchange,
  • Joint research development and advancement, and
  • University - Industry linkage development and technology transfer.

During the signing ceremony Dr. Abdelkader Kedir, in his remarks, assured the commitment from Mekelle University side to bring the best of all experiences out of this agreement.

After attending the MoU signing ceremony as major stakeholders of the partnership, delegates of the management of the Ethiopian Institute of Technology - Mekelle (EiT-M) and management chairs of programs in EiT-M held a detail discussion with the STEPI group on how to engage specific activities in the near future.

The Memorandum of Understanding, in another perspective, is the result of the advancing friendly relations between Ethiopia and the Republic of Korea. Commencing on this date of signing, the MoU agreement will due for continuation after a period of five years.
