MU-IEGDS together with MU Gender Office organized an event on December 04, 2018 at MU to observe the yellow movement which overseen in collaboration with Human rights commission. The event was organized under the theme of “16 days of activism on Men’s involvement to end violence against women”, and thus presentation sessions and reflection over the issue for discussion has been held on the occasion.

The purpose of the forum was intending to create awareness for students, teachers and the public at large on how to protect women and girls from gender based violence.

Dr. Abebe Ejigu, Vice president for support service, in his remark noted that such kind of event is important to protect and empower girls. When women succeed, nations and its people will remain safe and secure.

Moreover, Dr. Abebe said that Mekelle University have been working persistently on protection of girls and still the university together with other partners will continue working hard avoid gender harassment and biasness that may happen in the university and beyond.

Coronail Saba Teka, From Human Right commission, in her speech said the yellow movement celebration is with the objective of creating an atmosphere where the university community share and discuss their thoughts and views to ultimately stop gender harassment at all level.

On the day Dr. Yetemwork G/Meskel, from Tigray Women’s Affairs Bureau, highlight on Gender based violence in Tigray region, and Mr. Yosef Ketema, Co-founder of men’s involvement for gender equality movement from Addis Ababa, also presents about the role of men’s involvement to end violence against women.
