The Institute of Pedagogical Sciences marked the successful launch of the "IPS Seminar Day" on Friday Nov. 30, 2012, in a session held in the Institute's Director Office at Mekelle University. Dr. Mengistu Haile, the Director of the Institute, in his opening remark appreciated the initiation taken and underlined the necessity of such a seminar on strengthening the Academic Culture in Mekelle University (MU) at large and in the Institute of Pedagogical Sciences in particular. He added, "This new culture in our institute should go as far as becoming a university wide culture by scaling its activities up to a level of organizing International Seminars."

Ato Nigus, a lecturer in the same institute initiated the idea of having a seminar on a regular bases. Ato Tsegay Girmay, MU- elearning Coordinator, became opening eye by presenting a discussion point entitled "The Diffusion of ICT in Education"on the same date. He gave detailed statistical explanation on the expansion of ICT usage globally as well as nationally. Ato Tsegay elaborated the conditions in using ICT in education in Public and Private Schools in Mekelle city and inside the University. The presenter, briefly introduced specific tools employed for eLearning at MU and made a say on the prospects of ICT in Education in MU.

The participants, all staff members of the IPS, expressed their pleasure and interest on the seminar and commented on the way forward for the seminar. They expressed their wish that this tradition grows large and becomes one of the pillars of the Academic Culture at MU where ideas will be shared, people will interact and academicians will get together. The seminar is scheduled to be held every two weeks.
