METODIC is an international project initiated in November 2024 that brings together seven universities from Africa in collaboration with two European higher education institutions, Ghent University in Belgium and the University of West Attica (UNIWA) in Greece, alongside the European industry partner IDEC from Greece. The project is designed as a capacity-building initiative aimed at strengthening higher education institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda.
The Department of Textile and Garment Engineering at the Ethiopian Institute of Technology–Mekelle (EiT-M), a partner institution of Mekelle University, is among the African institutions actively engaged in implementing the project. METODIC’s core aim is to enhance institutional capacity in promoting sustainability and circular economy principles within the textile and apparel sector. Key areas of emphasis include strengthening linkages between academia and industry, integrating digital technologies into education and practice, and fostering international collaboration to align with global sustainability and education agendas.
As part of its ongoing activities, the METODIC project is conducting its third study visit and training program in Uganda, hosted by Kyambogo University and Busitema University, and happened on December 01 to 05, 2025. Visit the official website of the project
