BRICS Training Program on Smart Manufacturing Concludes in China.
The BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center (BPIC) successfully conducted the "2026 BPIC Training Program on Smart Manufacturing and Innovation-Driven Development" from May 21 to June 5, 2026. The sessions were held across three Chinese cities: Xiamen, Hangzhou, and Shanghai.
The delegation from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia included representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Dr. Ashenafi Aregawi, Scientific Director of the Ethiopian Institute of Technology-Mekelle (EiT-M), Mekelle University.
The program underscored a shared commitment to multilateral cooperation among BRICS nations, with active participation from high-tech professionals and institutional leaders from the People's Republic of China. The events further highlighted China’s mature innovation ecosystem, offering substantial learning opportunities for participating institutions.

During the program, Dr. Ashenafi held a bilateral discussion with Madam Chen Zezhao, Deputy Director General of the Office of the Xiamen Leading Group for BPIC. The discussion focused on potential future collaboration with Mekelle University through the BRICS Academic forum.
Additionally, representatives from 25 institutions across 14 countries outlined key areas for joint action in artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing among BRICS nations.
