On July 26, 2025, the College of Veterinary Sciences at Mekelle University officially kicked off the "Working Equine Health and Welfare Improvement Partnership Project" in Tigray! This important initiative is a collaboration between CVS-MU and the Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS), funded by the Marchig Animal Welfare Trust.

The project aims to improve the health and welfare of working equines in Mekelle, South Eastern zones, Tsiraewonberta, and even extend to salt bar production sites in Afar through Berahle. Key activities include providing ambulatory health services, public education on equine welfare, training for veterinarians and students, research, and policy advocacy.

Furthermore, the project aims to establish an Equine Health Training Center at CVS-MU that will serve veterinary colleges across Ethiopia. The project also focuses on training field veterinarians, raising community awareness, and developing enforceable policies for better equine care.
Stay tuned for updates as we work towards healthier working equine and stronger communities!
