Future Urban Lab, EiT-M, Mekelle University in collaboration with CAMA Project has organized an expert workshop aiming at promoting Active Mobility (walking and cycling) with the theme of “ Shape your City’s movement” on the 18th of May 2024 at Endayesus Campus Mekelle University.
The Collaboration for Active Mobility in Africa (CAMA) is a collaborative project among two German universities and three African universities to work collectively on promoting active mobility. It is part of the partnership for sustainable solutions in sub-Saharan Africa program funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and research Germany (BMBF) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The project started in June 2021 and will last till May 2025. The project holds a consortium of five universities namely; Mekelle University (Mekelle Ethiopia), Makerere University (Kampala, Uganda), University of Nairobi (Nairobi, Kenya), University of Kassel (Kassel, Germany) and Hochschule Karlsruhe university of Applied Science (Karlsruhe, Germany).
The main objective of the workshop is to promote walking and cycling by conducting the following valuable mix of activities:
. Guided streets’ site visit to showcase relevant infrastructure;
. Presentations on the findings of Mekelle digital crowd mapping tool;
. Insights into global real-life experiments with active mobility;
. Group discussions and idea exchanges among experts and
. Walking event for about 10km.
