Fruitful Two Weeks in Tigray

Professor Mulugeta Gebregziabher from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in the US has paid a visit to Tigray after almost 5 years. He started his visit on Feb 26, 2024 from Aksum University (AKU). He signed MoU, gave public seminar, lectures and made rounds and visits of health infrastructure destroyed by the devastating war. He also presented at the Adwa Victory Day symposium and made a humanitarian mission to Amdo village in Maikinetal.
Currently visited MU, THRI and Burea of Health among other institutions and organizations that he is a partner of humanitarian work.
In his stay in Mekelle, Professor Mulugeta Gebregziabher, firstly, met with management of Ayder Hospital and Ayder CHS management. During the meeting, he had substantive discussion on issues like capacity building, MHPSS, collaboration in research and education programs.
He also delivered a lecture on Building Better Tigray (BBT) to the staff of Mekelle University and heads of different bureaus of the Tigray government.

FruitfulTwo Weeks Tigray

In his presentations, Professor Mulugeta shared best experiences and frameworks of building better Tigray. He tried to address the role of academia, the need for establishing centers of excellence, the need to join the world of AI by incorporating the conceptual framework he proposed that uses Digital Woyane as a catalyst of change for BBT. He also discussed ways to create linkages and partnerships for collaboration with key institutions and industries around the world.
He furthermore emphasized that Advocacy, diplomacy and linkage and networking with different organizations are new ways we shall give attention in our future activities.
Additionally, Professor Mulugeta met with researchers at Ayder MARCH research centers and discussed possible areas of collaboration in research and community services. He stated that he will collaborate with the center on digital health, digital women’s health and veterans’ health.
Furthermore, representing FEWSI foundation he met Professor Afework and his team and visited the space allocated for manufacturing RUTF and talk about the vision and objectives of FEWSI foundation in Tigray.
Lastly, Professor Mulugeta gave a lecture on research methods with focus on professional development and setting the agenda for intervention research to staffs of Ayder Hospital and college of Health Sciences.
Generally, Professor Mulugeta had fruitful time in Tigray.
He spent his two weeks of time engaged in activities that inspire the youth (including his media appearances and humanitarian activities) and give hope to our people who are still under duress from famine and lack of peace. The Management and staff of Ayder Hospital and college of Health Sciences are grateful for Professor Mulugeta's invaluable support, both financial, in kind and moral, during the tough war time.
