Mekelle University President Dr. Fana Hagos and vice president Dr. Abdulkadir met with Irish Ambassador H.E. Nicola Brennan on November 24. During the discussion, the two sides exchange views on possibilities of educational cooperation and on establishing new and reigniting previous partnership with Irish universities. Her Excellency Ambassador Nicola Brennan stated that the Embassy will work towards maintaining the longstanding relationship with Mekelle University.
November 18, 2023 Mekelle University advances its students after years of suspension. Mekelle University, located in the war-torn Tigray’s capital Mekelle, had stopped learning and teaching process for years due to the devastating war that took place in Tigray.
The fate of MU was not different as it was forced to stop functioning on community service, research and teaching: the aims it firmly stands for.
But, the University resumed its works on early August, 2022. And today, the university certified more than 2000 candidates from different colleges and institutes. The graduates include BA, BSC, MA, and MSC, PhD in various streams.
During the graduation ceremony, Academic vice president of the University Abdelkadir Khedir (PhD) appreciated the persistence of the graduates and respective educators who managed to be able to help the students realize their dreams despite the suspension of their 17 months’ salary.
It is also to be recalled that earlier on September Axum university, one of the most ruined Educational institutions was, against all odds, able to herald its students graduation.
In addition to Axum and Mekelle Universities, Tigray-based Raya and Adigrat Universities continue the teaching and learning process after they resumed works after the deadly conflict. This colorful occassion, signaled resilience at its peak. It also creates a sprit of renaissance and a relative flourishing hope in the postwar context.
Mekelle University Management and the community congratulates the GC 2023. They also extended their call to the graduates not to forget the challenging time they came across and serve the community at their best level.
Mekelle University community harvested the land of Tigray Martiers' families in Aynimbirkekn kebelle of Hagereselam. In the campaign graduating students and staff have participated. In the occassion, the management expressed that Mekelle university will stand with the community, as usual.
